. . . Y's poetry speaks the mind of
women who came from an era of "happily ever after" to
find that the world had changed. "Painting pictures in bold,
painful strokes," as she chronicles her emotional journey,
Y uses her poetry to explain her poetry.
. . . . . . "Writing is like the
relief
. . . . . . Of dumping the contents
of one's stomach
. . . . . .
After a bout of the dry heaves.
. . . . . . I thought poems came from
the mind,
. . . . . .
Not from the pit of the stomach."

Metamorphosis: Reflections of a Woman in Transition
is the lyrical accompaniment to the art produced by this writer
and artist.
Metamorphosis
an excerpt from the title poem
I'm changing;
The very essence of me is changing,
Somewhat like a caterpillar.
My body is the cocoon
That is hiding this permutation
From the world.
I look like me,
But the feelings and thoughts
Are altered
From those of the old me.
. . . . . . .
I don't even understand me, yet.
It seems that all of my convictions
Are undergoing subtle changes
That violently perplex me.
Like a child, I long to know
How long this rebirth will take,
Realizing that gestation has already
Exceeded a year.
I am anxious for the mutation to be finished,
For the dissonance, chaos, and confusion
Of the old clashing with the new
To be done.
It's too bad that I can't go
Into a real cocoon
Until the transformation is complete.
Maybe I should just hang a sign that says,
"Caution: Woman in Transition!"
